BHS Devil's Advocate

For the students, by the students

Journalism students receive broadcasting award

Congrats to Alyssa Porter, Lily Algieri, Ranya Paul, and Dylan Lechner for their outstanding work on their broadcast “More ZZZ’s for BHS?” They have been honored with the New England Scholastic Press Association’s Journalism Award for Scholastic Editing and Publishing for their Special Contest on Localizing.

What is localizing?

When writers show how issues that affect people in their state, their country or around the world also affect people in their own school community, that’s localizing.

The winning broadcast can be seen on the newspaper’s youtube channel here.

Broadcasts were added to the BHS journalism curriculum to enhance students’ 21st century skills and broaden their understanding of today’s multi-media journalism. The Devil’s Advocate now publishes two online broadcasts a year, one in the winter and one in the summer.

The complete Winter 2016-2017 Broadcasts can be found here.

Special congrats also to Copy Editor and Staff Writer Benedict Grubner for his Honorable Mention in the 2017 Scholastic Writing Awards for his article “Wrong turn; how the BHS 1:1 technology program has failed us”
